In one article in The New York Times titled "Voices in Egypt Shield Girls from an old tradition, many sectors of Egyptian society worked to reduce female genital mutilation. In 2005, a study of married, divorced, widowed and the Egyptian women found that 96% had done the procedure. Here is the article:
